Make a Difference: A Mothers Influence

Today I am going to share a little bit about a remarkable man known as  Zig Ziglar.

Yesterday  I read Zig Ziglars life story.  It began in Alabama to a large family. Zig was born a healthy baby boy but after just 10 days the doctor handed him to his mother saying he is no more. Immediately his grandmother took him, held him close and prayed. Her prayers were answered and the child survived.

He was raised by his  mother along with 11 siblings. When Zig was just 6 years old his father died of a stroke and his sister died just a few days later . It is hard to comprehend the amount of  grief his mother would have been going through at that time, yet she continued to raise her family with strong Christian values.

I believe Zig Ziglars mother is the one who really needs to be acknowledged. Without her love, her faith and her determination that family would not have survived as well as they did.

Make A difference: A Boys Passion

You would expect that starting out with such struggles as he did you would always struggle but that was not the case.

At a very young age he realized the need to work and so began his journey of life, not with complaining but always with an attitude of gratitude, which he attributes to his mother and her deep faith in God. Zig was working as a door to door salesperson through his teen years but when challenged by an American Indian named PC Merrill  about what he was doing  who told him he could be the number 1 sales person of a 7000 member team.

He responded by becoming a motivational speaker to other salespeople.

By age 18  Zig had met and soon married his sweetheart  and within a short time realized that he had to capitalize on his gifts which were to motivate others  to achieve their full potential.

Make a Difference: A  Mans Legacy         Zig Ziglar

Zig knew  “success is not measured by what you do compared to what others do. It is measured by what you do with the ability God gave you. He was a gifted motivational speaker and it was soon recognized and in demand. He was given speaking engagements all over the country and then internationally where his words inspired millions of people to achieve their dreams.

Many, many people have been encouraged by Zig Ziglar to reach their full potential in life and be the people God created them to be.

Zig has written a series of motivational books and recorded many videos to help others achieve their potential and to be successful in their own lives.

His legacy will live on through the people whom he has helped and will continue to help through his books and videos.

If you want to reach your full potential and be the person God created you to be  then try some of Zigs strategies for success.

Make a Difference: Be the Person God Created You to Be:

I believe we all have a purpose for being. It is our responsibility to discover that purpose and reach our full potential with in it.

It is never too late to start folks. Quoting Zig,  “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”

We may be getting older and feeling more tired and less inclined but we can still make a difference by improving the life of others. We can encourage the younger members of our family and our community.  We don’t even have to leave the house to do that.

Sometimes all it takes is a phone call to encourage someone and tell them you are thinking of them or to ensure they are OK.  As seniors in our society we can make a tremendous difference to the lives of others by showing our love and appreciation of them.  Every single one of us can do that, even if we are confined to a wheel chair or a nursing home.

The resource we have is time, and years of life experience, let’s take that and be a mentor to someone younger who might be struggling.with life’s challenges.

Make a difference: Write your own Orbituary

We will all have to face the end of life sometime and then people will either celebrate our lives with fond memories and acknowledgements of what we meant to them or they will have nothing of consequence to say. How would you like to be remembered? It is a good exercise to sit down with pen and paper and write your own orbituary.

Take time to really know the people you are interacting with.  I have several friends suffering alzeimers disease and once that takes effect it is too late. Your friends or loved ones can drift off into another world. Now is the time, start today, then every day make a new start. Begin by making a list, set goals and set out to achieve those goals.

“In the game of life, before you get anything out, you must put something in!”  ( Zig Ziglar)

It always amazes me when I go to a funeral, how little I really knew of the person who I thought was my friend for so many years. How can we know each other better before it is too late?

  1. Hi Judy,

I really enjoyed your post and totally agree that we should find our purpose in life and what better, than helping others find theirs. We are so unique in our own ways and have much to offer if we will. I am fifty plus and I love reaching out, sharing some of what life has taught me to others that may need to hear. We never know why God allows certain things to occur in our lives, maybe it is that we are meant to share with someone what they truly need to hear. I look forward to hearing more from you.

    1. Thank you Riley for your comments. Its like the old saying we reap what we sow. When we sow a crop of wheat we produce far more wheat than what we sowed. It multiplies. Its a biblical principle that works in all aspects.Enjoy life after 50.

  2. This is a wonderful insight into growing older and not having what was there before. Starting something new, and this is exactly what I am doing and I have started making a bucket list. I have accomplished some items on this list, but I am also looking for more income to do all the items on my list. I have a website and have been very intrigued by all that I have learned in the last 3 months working with WA.
This site really hit home with some of the things that you have mentioned, like Life is meant to be lived at whatever age you are. Take care of your health and you can do anything you set your mind to. Great post and very inspirational. Thank you.

    1. Thank you Bobbi.  I really appreciate that you took time to comment. Health is our number 1 asset and we do need to look after it. That is part of the attitude we have each day when we get up.  We need to get up and go, … for a morning walk or some other form of exercise, eat wholesome food and take time to rest, not allowing ourselves to be stressed. I hope you can enjoy all your senior years with good health and prosperity.
